Amy became interested in this breed in 1992 after seeing a photo of them in the Encylopedia of Dog Breeds. At that time, there were none in the United States. Now 300 +/- exist in the United States and only 3000 +/- worldwide. Being a true children of the Mediterranean, the breed dislikes the cold weather and prefers to cuddle when it's chilly out! They are truly an ancient European bird dog with pure bird instinct and drooly, happy, biddible personalities. They are not without a hunting dog temperament however...they need to be kept as busy as any Weimaraner and they can be stubborn in their own way.
Now that we have two, we will be showing Nicco and Bionda in UKC competition. They will also be seen at IABCA and ARBA shows when possible. As an AKC Foundation Stock breed, they will also be elligble to compete in AKC Hunt Tests starting January 1, 2010.
The long term plan will be to have a litter with Nicco and Bionda but it will be late 2010, at the earliest.
